Career
Attorney Lee, Dong Hoon, the the managing partner of our firm, specializes in the areas of family law, election cases, construction and real estate, financial crimes, labor law, and legislative consulting.
Recently, he has reported significant victories in lawsuits, including: △ Winning the first trial representing a company in a case challenging the employee status of electronics installation technicians under the Labor Standards Act, △ Obtaining a Supreme Court remand ruling that the domestic head office is responsible for the unpaid wages of employees sent overseas.
In the first case, the workers, who were responsible for the delivery and installation of electronic products designated by the company, claimed severance pay and other benefits, arguing that they were “workers under the Labor Standards Act”. Despite the Supreme Court's previous rulings recognizing the worker status of equipment installers and repair technicians, Attorney Lee and his team demonstrated that "whether a worker is covered by the Labor Standards Act can vary based on the specific facts and evidence of each case. Had the client lost the case, it would have faced potential losses in excess of KRW 80 billion, but they won the first trial and the plaintiffs decided not to appeal, making the ruling final.
In the retrial of the STX Shipbuilding overseas workers' wage dispute, Attorney Lee reaffirmed the legal principle that "a transfer requires the consent of the employee because it involves the termination of the existing employment relationship and the conclusion of a new employment contract with the new employer. This ruling has set a precedent for similar cases. The case involved workers who, while employed by STX Shipbuilding and STX Heavy Industry, were assigned to work at STX's local Chinese subsidiary and filed claims against their former employers for unpaid wages and severance pay since 2012.
Attorney Lee Dong-hoon leads the "Barun Estate Planning (EP) Center," which provides comprehensive services for high-net-worth individuals ranging from asset management planning to inheritance and business succession. He served as the Managing Representative Attorney from 2019 to 2024 and, from 2025 onward, has taken on the role of General Representative Attorney, contributing to the growth of Barun Law.
