Team Services
Helping you deliver the projects that power, protect and transform Australia.
Piper Alderman’s national Projects, Infrastructure & Construction team advises on projects at the centre of Australia’s energy transition, national security and growth. The team’s experience spans electricity transmission, renewables and storage, hydrogen, defence, roads and rail, resources, water and digital infrastructure, and major building projects.
One team across the project lifecycle
A key point of difference is the team’s integrated approach to project structuring, finance and delivery. The lawyers negotiating project documents understand what is required to make a project financeable and bankable, as well as how risk allocation will operate through construction and delivery.
This provides clients with one integrated view of the commercial, financing and delivery position, rather than separate legal workstreams requiring coordination.
The approach is particularly valuable for new, complex and nationally significant projects. The team advises transmission network businesses on major interconnector and network projects, and government and industry on first-of-kind hydrogen, battery and defence infrastructure, including projects where there may be limited established market precedent.
Who we act for
Clients include government, network businesses, infrastructure investors, developers, tier one contractors, technology and systems providers, subcontractors and consultants.
The team advises across the full project lifecycle, from structuring, financing and procurement through to delivery, claims and dispute resolution, and across PPP, EPC, D&C, ECI, alliance, BOOM and managing contractor models.
Its experience extends beyond energy and defence to major road and rail programs, airports, social infrastructure, and significant health, education and commercial building projects.
Claims and disputes
Piper Alderman’s specialist national construction disputes practice acts on major claims, distressed projects and disputes across infrastructure, energy and resources projects. The team represents clients in adjudication and expert determination, as well as Supreme Court litigation and international arbitration.
