Career

A graduate from the University of Keele, in the United Kingdom, in 1989 with joint Honours degrees in Law and Sociology, Sai Yeang is a member of The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, London and was called to the Bar of England and Wales as an Utter Barrister in 1990.

Since 1991, when she was called to the Malaysian Bar, Sai Yeang has appeared before judges at every level of the Malaysian judicial system.   She became a partner in 1997 and is now the Head of the Dispute Resolution Practice Group.

Specialising in commercial litigation with particular emphasis on finance, banking, property, receivership and insolvency, she also represents clients in corporate litigation in matters such as shareholder disputes, boardroom tussles and schemes of arrangement, as well as in litigation arising from Islamic banking products such as Al Bai’ Bithaman Ajil, Al Ijarah, Kafalah, Wakalah, Murabahah and Musyarakah facilities.

Sai Yeang has been a member of the Malaysian Bar Council’s Islamic Finance Committee for a number of years.  She is a member of the Disciplinary Committee Panel appointed by the Advocates and Solicitors’ Disciplinary Board under the Legal Profession Act 1976 and is also a Trainer in the Malaysian Bar Council’s Advocacy Training courses.

Since the 2020 edition of Chambers Asia Pacific, Sai Yeang has been recognised as a leading dispute resolution practitioner.   She has also been ranked as a Distinguished Practitioner by asialaw in its 2024 publication.
