Jaap is a partner in our Digital Business Practice and heads up that practice in our Amsterdam office. He joined Simmons & Simmons in 2024 from another international law firm where he led the commercial technology team in the Netherlands.

His expertise extends to business process and IT outsourcing, IT commercial contracting and technology licensing, telecommunications, data protection and cyber security, AI regulation, E-commerce, and commercial (technology related) litigation. Jaap has a strong track record supporting leading clients at a cross-border and national level, including large (multi)national service providers, corporates and financial service organisations.

Besides working at Simmons, Jaap is an arbiter at the Foundation for the settlement of Automation Disputes in the Netherlands (SGOA) and a (soon to be appointed) deputy judge at the District Court of The Hague.

Aside from his experience as an attorney in private practice, Jaap has extensive experience as an in-house tech lawyer and litigator, having worked as a senior corporate attorney and head of legal at various telecommunications companies.
