Position

Jag Bahra is a Senior Associate Solicitor in the Human Rights team and is among the most long-standing members of the firm, having joined as a paralegal in 2017.

Career

Jag’s practice encompasses actions against the police and public authorities, privacy/data protection claims, judicial review challenges, and inquests into deaths in custody.  He has a keen interest in cases involving police violence and discrimination, and cases in which the exercise of police and state power and privacy/information law overlap.   He has in-depth knowledge of the lesser-known corners of the legal aid regulations, and has successfully obtained public funding in novel situations to ensure clients of limited means receive access to justice, often wrong-footing Defendants in the process.  He is accustomed to dealing with clients who are vulnerable by reason of their traumatic experiences and strives to provide advice in a sympathetic and straightforward manner. 

Memberships

He is a member of the Network for Police Monitoring (NETPOL) Lawyers’ Group, Police Action Lawyers’ Group (PALG) and Inquest Lawyers’ Group (ILG).

Education

Jag holds a Master’s Degree from Queen Mary University of London, which focused on privacy and information law and emerging surveillance technologies and practices. He received the Law School Academic Prize for his work.  He joined Saunders Law as a Paralegal in 2017, bringing with him a number of years’ experience in actions against the police and public authorities, and completed his training contract with the firm.
