Gerard is a resource management, planning and environmental lawyer with over 25 years' experience advising on all aspects of development under the RMA.

His work spans land use consenting, private plan changes, and rezoning processes through to appearances at local authority hearings, the Environment Court, and the High Court. He also advises on local government law and land acquisition matters. He has acted on some of the most significant planning and consenting processes in the South Island, including large-scale commercial, industrial and residential rezonings and complex development projects.

Having worked as a resource planner within local government before moving to the law, Gerard brings a practical understanding of how planning processes work from the inside - an advantage that shapes how he approaches complex and politically sensitive applications on behalf of clients.
