Bob is a Consultant at Bates Wells, with extensive experience in the administration and regulation of elections, referendums and political finance.

Recently retired as Chief Executive of the UK Electoral Commission, he has spent many years shaping policy and advising on the complexities of this sector including its interaction with data protection, advertising, lobbying, charity and public law.

Bob has worked closely with government ministers, political parties and parliamentary committees, and has played key roles in the running and regulation of national referendums, as well as directly administering elections as a Returning Officer and serving as an Electoral Registration Officer.
