Career

From 1996 to 2001 Manuel Martínez was a researcher at IESE (University of Navarra) and a senior member of The Information Highway Group, with which he coordinated several European R&D projects in ICT. In 2006 he was an independent examiner for the European Commission in a study related to the misnamed Software Patent Directive. He has written and lectured on all legal aspects of IP and ICT for several universities. In addition, he has been a speaker at the 3rd International GPLv3, among other international events. Since 2014 and for the second consecutive term, he is also President of the ICT Section of the ICAB, having previously been Vice-President of the IP Section.

From 2001 to 2006 he was also responsible for the ICT department of Baker and McKenzie Barcelona. In 2006, together with his partner Malcolm Bain, he founded his own brand “id-law partners” as a boutique specialized in IP and ICT. In May 2018, they both incorporated this brand in Across Legal.
