Professional Overview 

Krishna Desai is a Partner and Head of MF&G’s Property and Estates Department, with a unique multidisciplinary background spanning law, environmental management, maritime affairs and infrastructure development. He brings significant experience advising on complex developments, free zone operations and high-value maritime and real estate transactions. 

Practice Focus 

Property and estates, environmental and planning law, maritime and admiralty law, special economic zones, infrastructure and large-scale developments. 

Key Experience & Matters 

  • Led the successful arrest and judicial sale of the M/V Trading Fabrizia, resulting in a US$10.3M sale pendente lite — one of Jamaica’s most significant admiralty matters.
    • Secured free zone status and fiscal incentives for the West Indies Petroleum South Terminal, a 600,000-barrel marine terminal.
    • Environmental and planning lead on the US$300M acquisition of Playa Hotels & Resorts’ Jamaican assets and subsequent US$60M resale.
    • Advised on SEZ acquisitions, including BTP Lot 9 Limited.
    • Successfully defended civil proceedings through submissions of no case to answer.

  • Practitioner Member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA).
    • Founding member of the Jamaican Bar Association’s Maritime Law Committee.
    • Widely respected for bridging legal, environmental and commercial risk in major projects.
