Career

Stuart's practice centres on international family law, including complex divorce, financial and forum/jurisdiction disputes across multiple legal systems, often determining where proceedings should take place when individuals or assets have connections to more than one country. This includes work for high-net-worth clients on cases involving trusts, companies and partnership structures.

Alongside his international practice, he advises on all aspects of family law, including divorce, financial settlements, and issues concerning children. He has particular experience in financial claims arising from relationship breakdowns, including Schedule 1 claims, TOLATA disputes, and the negotiation of pre-nuptial, post-nuptial and cohabitation agreements. He also advises on international relocation matters involving children.

He has contributed to developments within the family justice system, including involvement in HMCTS digitalisation initiatives, and has written on family law issues for legal and industry publications.

Before joining Thomas Mansfield, Stuart practised family law at a large City law firm before moving to a boutique firm specialising exclusively in international family law, where he became a partner. At his most recent firm, he co-headed the specialist family law team.

Stuart has courtroom advocacy experience, having represented clients in both the Family Court and the High Court.
