Career

Marc Ramsay is the Managing Partner of Ramsay & Partners and leads the firm’s transactional practice. He is admitted to practise in Jamaica, Barbados, and Belize, and has advised clients across the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, and North America on complex domestic and cross-border matters.

He began his career at former public international law firm HyltonBrown in Jamaica, then in the public sector, serving as Crown Counsel, International Legal Affairs, Government of Belize, where he advised on public international law, international trade, treaty obligations, and cross-border commercial matters. During this period, he also acted as a consultant to the Directorate General of Trade, drafting Belize’s Geographical Indications Bill, the first dedicated legislation of its kind in the jurisdiction. Marc subsequently worked in London as a consultant to the Caribbean Council, advising Caribbean governments and private sector stakeholders on international trade, investment, and regulatory engagement. He later established Marc Francis Ramsay & Company, which evolved into Ramsay & Partners.

In private practice, Marc has developed a strong reputation for advising on regulated transactions, public takeovers, securities offerings, and complex mergers and acquisitions. He has advised on a record three public takeovers on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, and is frequently instructed by multinational clients and international law firms as Jamaican counsel on high-value acquisitions, financings, and restructurings.

Alongside his legal practice, Marc holds and has held several senior board and governance appointments, including Chairman of Aeronautical Telecommunications Limited, Director and Chairman of the Compensation Committee of Tropical Battery Company Limited (JSE-listed), Board Member of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority, and Board Member of the Teacher Service Commission. He has also previously served as a director of Key Insurance Company Limited.

Alongside his legal practice, Marc holds several senior board and governance appointments. He is a Director of Worldnet Microfinance Limited and Lifespan Company Limited, and served as Chairman of Aeronautical Telecommunications Limited. He is also a Director and Chairman of the Compensation Committee of Tropical Battery Company Limited, a company listed on the Jamaica Stock Exchange. In addition, Marc is a Member and Chairman of the Regulatory Committee of the Jamaica Stock Exchange MicroMarket Steering Committee.

Marc also served in the public sector as a Board Member of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (and Regulatory Committee Chairman) and the Teacher Service Commission. He is actively engaged in legal education and professional development, having lectured in public international law, advanced legal writing, and corporate governance at the University of the West Indies Faculty of Law, and having coached the Norman Manley Law School Jessup Moot Court Team, which has achieved international recognition.
