Gaute Gjelsten has 25 years of experience specialising in international shipping and offshore law, including marine and energy, insurance law.

Gjelsten has extensive experience in handling significant claims arising out of marine and offshore casualties, including i.a. jurisdiction, choice of laws, limitation and limitation fund proceedings. He has represented the private sector in legal actions against the Norwegian State in the majority of the significant recourse claims made within the marine sector in Norway. Gjelsten further acts for Nordic and international insurers on insurance matters concerning H&M, War, LOH, cargo, charterers' liability, general liability and P&I.

Gjelsten is further a leading lawyer within the energy insurance sector acting on complex offshore and onshore claims, regarding i.a. CAR and operational policies, reinsurance and coverage disputes.

He has extensive litigation experience before the Norwegian courts and in arbitration proceedings, and is admitted to the Norwegian Supreme Court.
