Career

Ian Barton was admitted as a Solicitor in England & Wales in 1993 and is also admitted as an Attorney-at-Law in New York.

He trained with a law firm in Barnet before relocating to Germany, where he undertook an internship with Droste Killius Triebel in Munich (now part of Hogan Lovells). His work focused on supporting American corporate clients.

He later joined Deutsche Bank AG, working in Munich and Frankfurt am Main. His role involved investigating and recovering debts owed to the bank by British entities. During this time, he developed a strong working knowledge of the German language.

Ian subsequently worked offshore in Jersey as in-house solicitor for a trust company, with additional experience in Anguilla. His practice focused on trust law, including advising on the transfer of business from a failed trust company.

In 2005, he returned to London and joined Capita Group. He was responsible for overseeing the transfer of the Public Trustee’s caseload, a role undertaken in accordance with requirements set by the Ministry of Justice. He remained with Capita for six years.

Since 2013, he has worked on a freelance consultancy basis, advising a range of small legal and accountancy practices.

Education

Ian Barton obtained his LLB from the University of Central Lancashire. He subsequently completed the Final Examination of the Law Society at the The College of Law in Guildford.

Leisure

In his personal time, Ian enjoys travel and the study of history. He is also an active member and director of the East India Club.
