Dalva Pieri Nunes built a distinguished career within the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Rio de Janeiro, which she joined in 1974. She worked predominantly in the criminal field, also taking part in internal inspection committees and admission panels for entry into the institution. From 1995 to 1998, she served as Head of the Criminal Advisory Office, and in different periods she also sat on the Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and on its Special Body, both as an elected and ex officio member. She was the first woman to be elected and re-elected by direct vote of the members of the College of Prosecutors to serve as General Inspector of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, holding that position from 1999 to 2002. She also served as Vice-President of the National Council of General Inspectors of the Public Prosecutor’s Offices of the States and the Union in 2000–2001. As a Prosecutor, she sat as a sitting member of the 3rd Criminal Chamber of the former Criminal Court of Appeal and of the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice. She retired from the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rio de Janeiro in 2021.
