Position

María Paulina Riveros Dueñas is a Founding Partner at Riveros Bazzani Abogados and a highly recognized Colombian attorney with more than two decades of experience advising companies, financial institutions, senior executives, and public officials in complex criminal matters, corporate investigations, compliance, crisis management, and high-impact institutional affairs.

Her practice focuses on strategic criminal litigation, white-collar crime, corporate investigations, regulatory matters, and crisis management, advising clients in the prevention, management, and resolution of legal, regulatory, and reputational risks arising from complex investigations and sensitive legal scenarios.

Before joining private practice, María Paulina held senior positions within the Colombian Government, including Deputy Attorney General of Colombia, where she participated in the strategic direction of major criminal investigations and the development of public policies related to criminal prosecution, corruption, organized crime, and high-impact criminal matters.

She also served as the first female Plenipotentiary of the Colombian Government in the peace negotiations with the FARC-EP, contributing to the negotiation and implementation of the Final Peace Agreement and the development of Colombia’s transitional justice framework.

Her extensive public-sector experience provides her with a unique understanding of governmental institutions, regulatory environments, and complex decision-making processes, allowing her to provide strategic advice in matters involving significant legal, institutional, and reputational exposure.

María Paulina holds a Law Degree from Universidad Externado de Colombia, a Master’s Degree in Insurance Law from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, and is a certified conciliator before the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce.

Career

María Paulina Riveros Dueñas is a Founding Partner at Riveros Bazzani Abogados. She has over 20 years of experience advising domestic and international companies, financial institutions, senior executives and public officials on white-collar crime, corporate investigations, compliance, crisis management and regulatory matters. Before entering private practice, she served as Deputy Attorney General of Colombia and held several senior government positions, including Chief Legal Counsel to the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace, Vice Minister for Participation and Equal Rights, and Director of Human Rights at the Ministry of the Interior. She also served as the first female Plenipotentiary of the Colombian Government in the peace negotiations with the FARC-EP.
