Alper Arslan is a disputes lawyer with over twenty five years of experience in litigation and arbitration. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law in 1999 and obtained an LL.M. from the University of Nottingham in 2002. He is admitted to the Istanbul Bar Association and is a member of the International Bar Association.

He began his legal career in 2000 in Ankara and, until 2007, advised and represented clients in a broad range of matters involving civil, commercial, labour, criminal, administrative, and enforcement law. He subsequently moved to Istanbul and joined Coşar Avukatlık Bürosu, one of Turkey’s leading law offices, where he worked for 15 years. During that time, the office was consistently ranked in the top tier for dispute resolution by The Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners.

Mr. Arslan specialises in arbitration and litigation, with particular experience in complex commercial, construction, energy and post-M&A disputes. As noted by The Legal 500 (2017), he has “extensive experience in energy and post-M&A disputes before Turkish courts and arbitral tribunals.”

His recent experience includes representing a consortium formed by Turkey’s leading construction companies in a dispute arising out of a major infrastructure project before an ISTAC arbitral tribunal; representing a multinational company in a post-acquisition dispute before an ICC tribunal; representing an international energy company before Turkish courts; acting for a leading bank in damages claims arising from fraudulent transactions; representing a chemical company in annulment proceedings relating to an ICC award; advising a construction company in a delay and damages dispute before an ISTAC tribunal; representing a major construction company in damages claims before Turkish courts; acting for a multinational entertainment company in international arbitration and litigation arising out of a joint venture agreement; advising a multinational chemical company on compliance matters under Turkish law; and representing a foreign state in employment-related disputes before Turkish labour courts. He also represented the state in three ICSID arbitrations brought under the Energy Charter Treaty, as well as in a related application before the European Court of Human Rights.

Mr. Arslan is also active in legal writing and thought leadership. He co-authored the Turkey chapters of Cross-Border Handbooks, Dispute Resolution Volume 1 and Volume 2: Arbitration, as well as the Turkey chapter of Chambers and Partners, International Arbitration: Law and Practice, Trends and Developments. His publications include articles in International Bar Association committee publications on Turkish dispute resolution, including “Mandatory Mediation in Commercial Disputes in Turkey” and “Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Court Judgments and Arbitral Awards in Turkey.” His forthcoming article, “Seized, Hacked, or Leaked Data: Evidentiary Boundaries in Turkish Law,” further addresses evidentiary issues under Turkish law.

He is admitted to the Istanbul Bar and is a member of the International Bar Association.
