Darragh Dzisiak is an intellectual property lawyer at Heer Law. Her practice includes intellectual property litigation and pre-litigation disputes, patent matters and broader intellectual property advice.

Darragh assists clients and senior counsel with the assessment and enforcement of intellectual property rights, the development of dispute strategies, legal research, written advocacy and the preparation of litigation and pre-litigation materials. Her work encompasses issues involving patents, trademarks, copyright, trade secrets and other commercially valuable intellectual property.

Her combined background in science, law and business enables her to consider intellectual property matters from technical, legal and commercial perspectives. She has a particular interest in the role intellectual property plays in business development, cross-border transactions and the commercialization of innovation.

Darragh joined Heer Law as a summer law student, returned to complete her articles with the firm and continued with Heer Law as an intellectual property lawyer.

She earned a joint Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from Queen’s University. While at Queen’s, Darragh studied international business law at the Bader International Study Centre in England, developing an interest in cross-border legal and commercial issues.

During her legal studies, Darragh worked with the Canadian Bar Association, Queen’s Conflict Analytics Lab and Queen’s Business Law Clinic. Her work for the Canadian Bar Association included research concerning Gladue courts, Indigenous self-governing courts and Indigenous peoples in the Canadian justice system. She also served as Managing Editor of Blogs for the Canadian Journal of Commercial Arbitration and wrote on developments in Canadian arbitration law.

Before entering law, Darragh completed a Bachelor of Science at McMaster University, focusing on neuroscience and psychology. Her scientific education supports her ability to understand technical subject matter and communicate with inventors, researchers and businesses operating in innovation-driven fields.

Darragh has contributed to Heer Law publications addressing patent law, trade secrets, trade dress, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and intellectual property litigation. She also assisted with research for the Canadian chapter of World Trademark Review’s Anti-counterfeiting and Online Brand Enforcement: Global Guide.
