Artashes Hovhannisyan

MB Legal, Armenia

Position

Head of Criminal Law Practice

Career

Artashes Hovhannisyan leads MB Legal's criminal law practice, representing corporate clients, executives, and individuals in criminal proceedings before Armenian courts and investigative authorities. His practice spans criminal defence, internal investigations, and compliance risk assessment, with particular depth in matters involving financial crime, money laundering, and cross-border enforcement.

Before joining the private Bar in 2022, Artashes spent five years as an investigator within the Investigative Department of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, where he led and participated in high-profile national investigations. During that period he worked directly alongside U.S. law enforcement counterparts — including the DEA, FBI, and Department of Homeland Security — on transnational criminal matters, and completed specialist training on illicit drug crime investigation at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Budapest. This background gives him exceptional insight into the tactics and priorities of Armenian investigative authorities, which he deploys strategically in defence mandates.

Artashes is a licensed advocate authorised by the Chamber of Advocates of the Republic of Armenia. He holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Law with a specialisation in Criminal Law and Procedure from Yerevan State University.
