Helen Goatley
Partner acting for claimants in maximum severity personal injury claims and clinical negligence cases. She has achieved a particular reputation for her work on behalf of the victims of brain injury and was for many years the chairman of APIL’s brain injury group. She has had notable successes in heavily disputed cerebral palsy claims.
Anne Cassidy
Anne worked as a Junior Hospital Doctor before she decided to study law and spent the first twelve years of her legal career advising the NHS on the fair management of clinical claims.
She is accredited by the Law Society as a clinical negligence specialist. She has been representing patients and their families since 2005.
Her aim, obviously, is to secure an unarguably good result for all clients with a minimum of stress and confrontation. She may not be able to change the sad fact that avoidable injury has occurred, but she can make sure that the legal system does its job of providing security and opportunity for the future. Anne is also a firm believer that as a lawyer she can play her part in improving patient safety through her work with medical charities and her engagement with care providers.
Maya Sushila
Maya is a partner in the firm’s medical negligence team, helping clients with complex claims resulting from substandard healthcare and medical practices.
As a medical negligence specialist, her clients are those who have sustained orthopaedic, gynaecological, obstetric or brain injuries, often with life changing or catastrophic results. She also has a particular interest in handling cases of cauda equina syndrome. Her clients are often concerned initially about the complexity of the claims process, so she makes sure she guides them through the legal maze and gives them the clarity they need to feel reassured and confident.
Maya is approachable and open with her clients and takes the time to get to know them and understand their concerns. She knows that the legal process can be daunting, so she makes it a priority to put clients at ease and let them know that they are in the best possible hands.
Vicky Hydon
Vicky is a consultant in the firm’s medical negligence team, specialising in supporting clients who have complex, high-value claims due to negligence in medicine and surgery. She has a specialist interest in neo-natal deaths/injury, spinal cord injury, diabetic claims, orthopaedic claims and sight loss claims.
Vicky provides clients with guidance, support and reassurance during what can be a very challenging time. It is important that clients know how the law can help them get appropriate compensation to secure their future and ensure that lessons are learned.
With over 30 years as a practising solicitor, Vicky's clients have the reassurance of knowing that she fully utilises all her legal skills and considerable experience to help them achieve the best possible outcome. She works closely with clients at all stages of the process, and makes sure they understand what is involved and how the claim is being pursued.
Mala Sidebottom
Mala is a Partner and qualified medical doctor, specialising in helping clients who have suffered illness and injury as a result of substandard medical care.
The clients she work for are individuals who have experienced injury due to medical negligence and many of the claims have left the client with a permanent disability.
She has a particular interest in helping clients with neurological and birth injury claims. She also regularly works on cases involving delay in treating and diagnosing infectious diseases, inadequate consent for surgery and delay in diagnosing hearing loss.
She has a successful track record of recovering substantial amounts of compensation on her clients’ behalf. Recent settlements include a multi-million pound settlement in a wrongful birth claim, £1m for a client with delay in diagnosis and treatment of herpes simplex encephalitis and £700,000 for a client who developed cauda equina syndrome following spinal surgery.
She joined Moore Barlow in 2015. Previously, she worked in medical negligence for a London law firm for more than 10 years.
Before training as a solicitor, she worked as a practising anaesthetist.
She is regularly invited to speak to medical and legal students at events to discuss issues that affect their professions.
Victoria Jones
Victoria is a partner in the medical negligence department and has a wide range of experience covering areas such as misdiagnosis/failure to diagnose and surgical errors.
She has particular expertise in neurological and spinal injuries including brain injury at birth and cauda equina syndrome claims and has settled claims worth several millions of pounds.
She works quickly to understand how her client’s injuries are impacting on their lives so she can assist them by helping source care, therapies and equipment for their benefit. She is not merely a legal representative; she is an advocate for the well-being and aspirations of her clients, ensuring that their needs and hopes are at the heart of every legal endeavour.
Outside of work,she enjoys going to the theatre and in particular enjoy foreign travel.
Sarah Stanton
Sarah Stanton has been qualified as a solicitor for more than 25 years and has specialised in medical negligence and personal injury throughout that time. She now practise exclusively in the field of medical negligence from our Richmond office. Her clients are based throughout the country and Is happy to see clients at home, in one of our other offices in Hampshire and London or at another suitable venue. She also act as a Court of Protection Deputy for clients who have received a substantial sum of damages and am also the Legal Aid lead for the firm.
Sarah's cases involve injuries of maximum severity and include brain injuries acquired at birth or as a result of infection. In 2014 she succeeded in a lengthy High Court trial and obtained substantial compensation for a client who lost her sight as a result of delayed diagnosis of meningococcal meningitis. In 2017 she obtained over £million for a former vet who sustained serious neurological injuries as a result of delay in diagnosis of Cauda Equina Syndrome. She also have an interest in cases arising from gynaecological surgery, colo- rectal surgery and delayed diagnosis of cancer.
Her clients have life changing injuries and it is my role to guide them through the litigation process and to obtain maximum compensation as they nearly always need care and support in the future and are often unable to work. Her experience is that clients seeking redress for clinical negligence are often looking for much more than compensation and often want answers and to ensure that medical mistakes do not happen again.
