Alastair (Al) Shaw is a solicitor-advocate with 30 years' experience litigating copyright, trademark and trade secrets cases. He is counsel in the firm's London office and a member of the firm's global, award-winning Intellectual Property (IP) practice. Al's caseload usually has an international element, whether that's as lead advisor for major multi-national clients, dealing with cross-border jurisdictional challenges or coordinating parallel proceedings in multiple jurisdictions. He also has the rare experience of leading the execution of search orders to secure copyright and trade secret infringing evidence. Al's practice ranges across international rights owners' anti-piracy and anti-counterfeiting strategies, civil and criminal enforcement in the United Kingdom, to matters in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

Al has a deep understanding of the core IP issues which are the foundation of a wide range of creative industries from his experience advising clients in the fields of film and TV production and broadcasting, toys, gaming, software, music, news and book publishing, architecture, ship design and furniture design.

After an undergraduate degree in oceanography at Southampton University, Al trained with the firm and holds a diploma in IP law from the University of Bristol. As a solicitor-advocate, Al has rights of audience at all levels of the English civil court system.

He also represents injured British service personnel, pro bono, in compensation appeal hearings, on behalf of The Royal British Legion, in one case helping a client to achieve the near £600,000 maximum statutory compensation available from the British government.
