Since 1986 Ernst-Jan Louwers worked at AKD in Rotterdam and Eindhoven and the American firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.

On 1 December 2006 Ernst-Jan Louwers founded the niche firm Louwers IP&Tech Advocaten.
