  • ARIO LAW FIRM SUCCESSFULLY HOLDS 'STOP CORRUPTION' NGO ACCOUNTABLE IN DEFAMATION CASE INVOLVING THE PRESIDENT OF THE 'OPEN DIALOGUE' FOUNDATION

Ario Law Firm is changing the legal landscape for defamation cases involving online platforms. For the first time in Ukraine, the firm successfully argued that not only the formal owners of websites but also those who directly control the content and operations of the site should be held accountable in such cases.

In this instance, the Obolonsky District Court of Kyiv partially upheld the claims of Lyudmyla Kozlovska, President of the Open Dialogue Foundation, in her legal dispute with the Stop Corruption NGO. The court ruled that the information published on www.stopcor.org in 2018 was false and damaging to Kozlovska's honor, dignity, and business reputation.

As a result, the court ordered the Stop Corruption NGO, rather than the nominal owner of the website, to pay Kozlovska 50,000 UAH in moral damages and to publish a retraction on the website within 10 days after the decision becomes legally binding.

The case was represented by Julian Khorunzhyi, Senior Partner at Ario Law Firm.
