Public Law and Human Rights

I’m a partner in our Public Law and Human Rights department, leading on civil liberties and human rights. I joined the firm as a trainee solicitor in 2010 and am based in our Bristol office.

I have extensive experience in a variety of civil liberties cases involving claims against the police, acting for clients who have been wrongfully arrested, assaulted or have experienced a breach of the Human Rights Act as a victim of crime. These are stressful and sensitive matters, but I’m pleased to have negotiated several settlements for clients who have experienced problems with the police.

I have a strong practice of pursuing claims under the Human Rights Act against local authorities for vulnerable adults and children who have been unlawfully deprived of their liberty or where there have been delays in issuing care proceedings.

I have also represented families at inquests into the death of a loved one where that death has occurred in police custody, prison, a mental health hospital, or where the death has occurred after contact with the police.

I am also regularly instructed by the Official Solicitor to represent vulnerable adults and young people in health and welfare proceedings in the Court of Protection. These cases often include consideration of issues relating to deprivation of liberty.

My work is varied but I’m always focused on delivering for my clients, fighting to make sure their rights are upheld and justice prevails.
