Interview with…
Efra Aydin Can, Partner Of M&A Department

Efra Aydin Can, who is head of M&A / Projects department of Egemenoglu Law Firm, shares insights on how Egemenoglu adapts to evolving client demands and positions itself in the dynamic Turkish and international markets.
What do you see as the main points that differentiate Egemenoglu from your competitors?
Egemenoglu’s strength lies in being a truly full-service law firm with over half a century of experience in the Turkish legal market. We offer comprehensive expertise across corporate, litigation, banking & finance, employment, re-structuring, real estate, and regulatory practices, all integrated under one roof. What differentiates us is our ability to combine sector-specific insight with practical, business-oriented legal solutions. In M&A, for example, our clients benefit from the firm’s collective knowledge in areas such as competition law, labor law, and tax, which are often critical to the success of a deal. Our partner-led, hands-on approach ensures continuity, accountability, and genuine alignment with client objectives.
Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?
Beyond the steady growth of M&A and corporate transactions, we expect significant expansion in regulatory compliance, and technology-related practices. Geopolitical shifts, new ESG standards, and digital transformation are shaping client needs. We also foresee an increase in banking and finance mandates as businesses pursue new funding structures and international investors explore opportunities in Türkiye. The drivers behind these trends are both global—such as cross-border investment flows—and local, including regulatory reforms and market consolidation.
What's the main change you've made in the firm that will benefit clients?
Over the past year, we have prioritized investment in talent and international connectivity. We welcomed new partners and senior lawyers with deep knowledge of sectors, while also strengthening our international networks to better serve cross-border mandates. For clients, this means access to a broader range of expertise and seamless coordination across jurisdictions. This shift has enhanced our capacity to deliver solutions that are not only legally sound but also commercially aligned with clients’ global ambitions.
Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them?
Yes, technology has become central to how we serve clients. We use secure virtual data rooms and AI-assisted tools in due diligence, employ encrypted communication platforms for client interaction, and utilize advanced project management systems to streamline workflow. These tools improve speed, accuracy, and transparency—ensuring that clients are always informed and in control. Importantly, we balance technological innovation with the personal relationships that define our practice.
Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business?
We recently advised a multinational entering the Turkish market through both an acquisition and subsequent regulatory clearances. In addition to guiding the M&A process, our banking & finance teams designed a tailored financial restructuring plan that optimized the client’s capital structure and facilitated post-acquisition integration. By combining expertise across corporate, competition, employment, and financial restructuring, we not only secured regulatory approval but also ensured long-term operational and financial efficiency. This holistic approach provided the client with a strong foundation for sustainable growth in Türkiye.
Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms - where do you see the firm in three years’ time?
Clients increasingly want trusted advisers who can provide both legal stability and strategic foresight. In recent years, we see Egemenoglu further strengthening its position as one of Türkiye’s most respected full-service firms with an enhanced international reach. We will continue to expand our M&A and corporate practice, but also develop areas such as ESG, technology law, and complex disputes. Our vision is to remain the firm of choice for both multinational investors entering Türkiye and local companies seeking to expand globally—always with the same partner-led, client-focused approach that defines our history.
