James has experience advising on a wide range of both contentious and non-contentious employment law matters.

James frequently helps clients to navigate complex internal employment processes and procedures. He assists businesses to manage particularly difficult grievance, disciplinary and redundancy dismissals. James also has experience drafting and negotiating settlement agreements, employment contracts and service agreements.

James has particular expertise in assisting clients looking to bring or defend employment Tribunal claims, and often acts for clients in the first tier Tribunal, as well as the Employment Appeal Tribunal and the Court of Appeal.

James has acted for a variety of clients of all sizes across the UK and in various sectors, from small charities to professional football clubs. Clients regularly praise James for his straightforward and commercially minded advice.

James joined the employment team in February 2026. He works out of the Norwich office.
