Irena Petkova is the Deputy Head of the firm’s Energy practice. With over 15 years of experience, Irena is a leading expert in energy law, covering a wide array of sectors including renewable energy, nuclear, gas, mining, fuels, electricity generation, distribution, and supply, as well as energy trading, regulatory matters, and project finance.

Irena has a deep understanding of both Bulgarian and EU energy law, and she is particularly skilled in advising on regulatory frameworks, licensing, market entry, and project development. She plays a key role in structuring and implementing energy projects, supporting clients through the entire lifecycle—from initial investment and permitting to operations and compliance.

Her notable experience includes her involvement in the Belene nuclear power plant project and landmark gas pipeline developments. In recent years, Irena has focused heavily on renewable energy transactions and decarbonisation projects, advising on high-profile transactions in these areas. Irena also has significant expertise in climate change and environmental law, with a strong emphasis on the decarbonisation of the energy sector and the transition to renewable energy.
