Career
Annelies Sennef is a highly experienced litigation lawyer. For more than twenty years, she has been handling complex criminal cases with a corporate background. She is skilled in providing legal assistance to entrepreneurs, their companies and employees. The cases Sennef handles stem from investigations by the FIOD, the NVWA, the Labour Inspectorate, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets and other supervisory authorities. These include investigations into all kinds of fraud, food safety, industrial accidents, working with hazardous substances, environmental offences, greenwashing and possible violations of the Economic Offences Act (WED). Where investigations lead to administrative enforcement, Sennef advises companies and individuals on how to deal with administrative enforcement and sanctions, such as injunctions or administrative fines. Criminal and administrative investigations pose risks to the reputation of all those involved. When determining the right strategy, Sennef therefore explicitly takes these risks into account. Where the reputation of clients is damaged, she assists in reporting the matter and following up on it for grounds such as defamation, slander, false complaints or reports, and extortion.
Before moving into private practice in 2001, Sennef worked at the For Sennef, the exchange of professional knowledge drives innovation and enhances quality. and the National Public Prosecutor’s Office. Within the private practice, she worked for Simmons & Simmons and Sennef de Koning van Eenennaam advocaten. From 2009 to 2015, Sennef was a solicitor and portfolio holder for criminal law at the Bar Council in The Hague. In 2016, she moved her practice to Utrecht, where she was affiliated with Loods Advocaten.
For Sennef, the exchange of professional knowledge drives innovation and enhances quality. By sharing expertise, Sennef enriches the know-how of others and further sharpens her own skills. She teaches criminal law and criminal procedure at the Academy for Legal Practice, among others, provides peer reviews for specialised solicitors and large firms, and gives individual criminal solicitors peer reviews. Sennef is also affiliated with LawCare, part of the Dutch Bar Association, as a confidential advisor for lawyers. In 2000, she was involved as an author in the publication of “Complex Cases, perspectives on the Netherlands Criminal Justice System”. Since then, she has contributed to the Nederlands Juristenblad, Het Wetboek van Strafvordering / Melai, SDU Commentaar Strafvordering, the Advocatenblad, PROCES and www.bijzonderstrafrecht.nl.
Sennef is a deputy judge at the District Court of Rotterdam.
