I am an all-round employment lawyer who works mainly with employer clients.

On the non-contentious side, I advise businesses on people issues of all kinds, from routine questions about contractual or statutory rights, up to large scale restructuring exercises involving thousands of employees. In that context, I have significant expertise in TUPE matters. I also advise on related areas such as IR35/off-payroll working and trade union rights and industrial action.

On the contentious side, I advise on disputes from the very early stages (grievances, ACAS early conciliation) through to hearings in the Employment Tribunal and trials in the High Court. I advise on statutory employment disputes, such as unfair dismissal, discrimination and whistleblowing claims, as well as contractual and common law claims, such as the enforcement of restrictive covenants and obligations of confidentiality.

I have long experience of operating in a corporate environment, working with clients on transactions of all kinds and advising on issues with a significant cross-over into company law, such as the departure of directors.

I also advise senior individuals on joining and leaving arrangements. This includes contractual terms, rights under bonus and incentive schemes and, occasionally, complex issues such as EBTs.

Personal

As a lawyer, I would describe myself as extremely incisive with a fundamentally problem-solving approach.

In my personal life, I am married with a daughter, step-son and step-daughter.

Leisure

I am a lifelong cyclist.  My racing days are mainly behind me (apart from doing the cycling leg in the odd triathlon relay) but I still love the challenge of riding on and off road.
