She is recognised as one of Italy’s leading experts in EU and Competition Law by Legal 500 EMEA.

In the field of competition and European law, Irene has almost thirty years’ experience assisting multinational companies in national and EU proceedings relating to cartels, abuse of dominant position and unfair commercial practices, including appeals before national and EU courts and follow-on and stand-alone actions. She also assists on merger notifications, dawn raids and internal investigations, antitrust compliance programmes, and  assessment of horizontal and vertical agreements under block exemption regulations, including selective and exclusive distribution agreements. She has handled numerous preliminary ruling proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union concerning fundamental freedoms under the TFEU and also deals with state aid and trade law.

Prior to joining Portolano Cavallo, she was a partner at another international Italian law firm from 2005 and head of the Brussels office, where she worked from 1999 to 2001. She has been a Supreme Court attorney since 2012.

She is the author of over 150 publications on competition and EU law in legal journals and handbooks and has served for six years, as a Non-Governmental Advisor (NGA) to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition within the International Competition Network (ICN).

Irene is a member of the Union des Avocats Européennes, the European Law Institute, the Italian Antitrust Association as well as of the IBA and ABA antitrust section.
