Career
Rita Correia is a founding partner of Miranda & Associados and a seasoned legal expert with nearly 40 years of experience advising major and independent International Oil Companies across Africa. Her practice focuses on Foreign Investment, Energy, and Tax, with extensive expertise in oil & gas–related transactions and in the regulatory, contractual, customs, and tax frameworks that govern E&P activities.
Throughout her career, Rita has played a central role in some of the most significant upstream transactions in Angola, assisting clients in negotiating Production Sharing Agreements, Risk Service Contracts, and Joint Ventures, while ensuring full alignment with Angola’s complex legal, regulatory, tax, and customs regimes. She regularly advises on E&P matters, including local content, procurement, environmental licensing, abandonment obligations, and foreign exchange requirements.
Her experience also covers farm‑in and farm‑out transactions, business and operational restructuring, and high‑level interactions with government authorities on fiscal and regulatory matters. Rita’s deep sector knowledge makes her a trusted advisor to IOCs navigating the full lifecycle of upstream petroleum operations. Rita’s jurisdictional experience spans Angola, Portugal, and Mozambique, and she works fluently in both Portuguese and English. Over the years, she has also been repeatedly recognised by leading legal directories for her work in Energy and Natural Resources.
