Position

Carolien Brederije, partner and lawyer at BUREN, advises entrepreneurs, companies and institutions across a wide range of sectors on employment law, employee participation law and governance matters. She also regularly represents senior employees, executives and statutory directors in these fields.

Career

Carolien has been practising as a lawyer since 1996. In 2004, she completed the Postgraduate Programme in Employment Law (PALA) at Erasmus University Rotterdam, graduating cum laude.

From 2009 until 2025, Carolien was a partner at Valegis Advocaten, which merged with BUREN in 2026.

Memberships

Since June 2025, she has been Chair (and since 2023 as a member) of the international board of Pangea Net, a network of independent international law firms (active in 27 jurisdictions, with over 3,500 affiliated lawyers), of which BUREN is a member.

Carolien is active in various professional networks in the Netherlands and abroad, including networks for female entrepreneurs. She also holds several governance board positions. She is a board member of the Art-S-Cool Foundation in The Hague and of the Issoria Hospice & Thuis Foundation in Leiden. Carolien is a former chair of the WomensBizz business network and of Rotary Club The Hague Nieuwspoort. In addition, she served for eight years on the Regional Advisory Council of the Chamber of Commerce South West (Zuid-Holland & Zeeland).

Carolien is a member of VAAN (Dutch Association of Employment Law Attorneys), VvA (Dutch Employment Law Association) and VHA (The Hague Association of Employment Lawyers).
