About

Cornelia Stengel specialises in financial markets and data protection law and is a partner at Kellerhals Carrard. She operates mainly in the following areas of law: Banking Law, Anti-Money Laundering Legislation, Financial Services and Financial Institutions Law, Financial Market Infrastructure Law, Data Protection Legislation and Civil or Contract Law (in particular consumer credit, leasing and credit cards).

Cornelia Stengel has many years of specific experience in the legal analysis of new products, systems and technologies in the financial market and advises innovation projects related to digitalisation, payment systems, FinTech, blockchain/DLT, artificial intelligence or data policy. She supports clients in internal and regulatory investigations, complex regulatory issues and compliance matters or represents them in authorisation and enforcement proceedings.

She combines legal expertise with entrepreneurial experience, which she acquired and continues to develop through involvement in a group legal services department, as  member of the Board of Directors of a Swiss bank, and as a member of the executive board of Swiss FinTech Innovations (SFTI) and managing director of the Swiss Leasing Association (SLV). She advises executive boards and boards of directors on legal and reputational issues in her spheres of activity.

Cornelia Stengel brings her practical experience to the world of science as a honorary professor at the HSLU as well as a lecturer at various tertiary education institutions. She also involves herself in her spheres of activity, for example as member of working groups of economiesuisse, of the Swiss Blockchain Federation and as an elected permanent guest of the Expert Commission on Digitalization of the Swiss Bankers Association. She supported the Federal Administration in connection with various legislative projects, such as the preparation of the DLT bill, the regulatory framework of ‘artificial intelligence’ and the revision of the legal framework for payment systems and payment services.
