Our firm’s Energy team advises for both energy traders (incl. representation in procedures before the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority) and multinational and middle-sized clients seeking services of energy providers and/or energy trades. Services provided by the firm in this area also include proceeding in the acquisition of holding in power stations and electricity producing companies as licensees, starting from their due diligence investigation until their authority approval procedure and/or financing these projects in close cooperation with the Banking and Finance and the Corporate and M&A teams.

Hungary amongst many regional economies is going through fundamental restructuring of the production and distribution of energy. From an economic perspective, it is a must to regain industrial competitiveness, which was leveraged on cheap fossil energy before. In addition to economic concerns, sustainability is also a key social and environmental driver. Sustainable and/or non-fossil energy production has been an ongoing issue for a while but heavy barriers for the boom are imposed. Distribution infrastructure and systems need to be developed, the problem of storage and shortages of renewables must be sorted out and so on. However these barriers are technical issues at the first place, these have imposed heavy regulatory and advisory work, as well as M&A opportunities at the Energy teams operation recently.
