Position

Michael Schifferli is a partner in the Litigation and Arbitration and Private Clients practice groups. As an experienced litigator, he represents private clients and companies before state courts and international arbitration tribunals in Switzerland and abroad. Michael Schifferli also serves as an arbitrator himself.

His expertise covers complex contractual and commercial disputes under Swiss law and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG), corporate disputes between shareholders and co-owners, and post-M&A disputes following company sales, including the clarification of warranty claims and contractual purchase price adjustments.

As a member of the Sports Law Business Group, Michael Schifferli also contributes his procedural expertise to (arbitration) court disputes between athletes and sponsors, employers and associations. Michael Schifferli is the current President of Swiss Curling's sports tribunal.

In his second area of expertise, inheritance law and estate planning, Michael Schifferli has in-depth knowledge of national law which he uses to advise and, if necessary, represent his clients in court. In addition, his international network helps him to consider all aspects of cross-border estate planning for his clients. Michael Schifferli also has expertise in association and foundation law. He advises renowned associations and foundations and assists in their establishments.

Michael Schifferli is actively involved in the Association Internationale des Jeunes Avocats (AIJA) and currently serves as "National Representative for Switzerland" within the organisation. He is also a member of the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA) and the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS), as well as their youth organisations ASA below 40 and DIS40.

Michael Schifferli is an active participant and speaker at conferences and conventions in his areas of expertise and is involved as a volunteer arbitrator in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. He also volunteers on various association boards in Switzerland.

He is an active reserve officer in the Swiss Army where he currently holds the rank of Major (General Staff) and serves on the staff of a territorial division. His military background has trained him in systematic problem analysis and solution-oriented action under pressure   skills that he uses on a daily basis for the benefit of his clients.
