Hans handles economic criminal cases and criminal tax law matters. He advises a wide range of large companies in the Mainport Rotterdam area in the context of criminal and administrative proceedings involving environmental law and health and safety incidents.

Hans designs tailored compliance procedures for companies on how to engage with the relevant authorities, including mapping criminal liability exposure for corporate management. He has a particular focus on advising accountants and tax advisors facing criminal investigation and prosecution.

Hans is also widely known in the Dutch Caribbean islands, where he has built an excellent reputation as a Dutch criminal defence lawyer over many years.

He has served as criminal law portfolio manager on the supervisory board of the Rotterdam Bar Association.

Education and career

Hans de Jong graduated in criminal law from Tilburg University and was admitted to the bar in 1998. He joined Sjöcrona Van Stigt in April 2000, working from the offices in Rotterdam. He was made partner in January 2006. Hans is a member of the Dutch Association of Defence Counsel and has been the criminal law portfolio manager at the supervisory board of the Rotterdam Bar Association. He is also a member of the Rotterdam Port Association and Deltalinqs, which represents the common interests of all the logistical and industrial companies in the Rotterdam port and industrial area. Before this he held a variety of extracurricular positions including the supervisory committee of a penitentiary and chairman of the Coornhert Liga. He has various criminal law publications to his name.
