Career

Claus has been working with patents and IP rights since 1997. His reputation as a trusted advisor to clients sees him assisting with the development and implementation of IP Strategy, alongside other patent matters such as drafting, prosecution and oppositions, among other areas. He delivers practical insight, and his commercial acumen, technical expertise and international experience means he is often able to quickly identify the core purpose and potential value of his client’s patent rights.

Claus works primarily within the mechanical field of technology, petroleum exploration/production, aqua farming and sporting goods/equipment and his clients represent a cross section of Norwegian industry, from SMEs to Multinationals with global portfolios. A skilled litigator, he has extensive experience assisting clients with a range of infringement and enforcement matters.

Claus is fluent in Norwegian and English, and has some working knowledge of Dutch, German, French and Spanish. He graduated in 1995 with a M.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering from University of California, before following up the subject at the University of Oslo (UiO) and the Technical University of Trondheim (NTH). He has minors in Psychology, Biology, and Philosophy.

Prior to working in IP, he worked on the Halden Reactor Project, IFE then becoming a patent attorney at two patent firms in Norway. He joined Zacco in 2008, where he has continued to draw on his practical expertise and knowledge to assist his clients with expanding and enforcing their portfolios internationally.
