Position
Luc Thévenoz is professor at the University of Geneva and the dean of the Faculty of Law. Before his appointment as dean, he was the director of its Centre for Banking and Financial Law. He is Of Counsel in our Banking and Finance Group. His areas of expertise include contracts and trusts. He is often asked to provide a second opinion or specialized advice in litigation disputes and has served in many international arbitration panels as arbitrator or chair.
Experience:
- Provided legal opinion and support to the Swiss government resulting in the adoption of the Hague Convention on the Law Applicable to Trusts and their Recognition
- Co-drafted the Federal Intermediated Securities Act
- Represented Switzerland in the drafting, negotiation and adoption of the Unidroit Convention on Substantive Rules for Intermediated Securities
- Arbitrator or chair in various international commercial arbitrations
- Currently provides expert advice to the Swiss government for the preparation of a Swiss law on trusts
