Maria, named partner in 2025, has wide experience in domestic and international tax law and advises a wide range of Portuguese and international clients on their tax matters.

She has a strong reputation in the Portuguese legal market, particularly in the field of tax, being a member of the tax practice area, distinguished by her work in M&A, transactions and tax structuring for the last 19 years.

Maria works in the areas of international and domestic taxation for clients from different sectors and industries, particularly in the context of M&A transactions, venture capital, financing and advising national and international investors in defining investment strategies in Portugal.

She has extensive experience in advising banks, insurance companies, investment funds, start-ups, companies in the real estate, technology, energy and healthcare sectors.

Prior to joining the firm, Maria held the position of Tax Manager at a Big4 firm, a leading audit firm, and previously contributed to the Tax and Customs (TAXUD) division of the European Commission in Brussels.

Her notable strengths include versatility, diversified skills, a client-oriented approach, and audit and financial expertise, which are widely recognised.

Maria's active involvement in the firm's Innovation Commission and Legal Design teams reflects her keen interest in technological challenges and innovations.  Her particular interests lie in legal technology and artificial intelligence, and she has been instrumental in trialling and onboarding new tools. This hands-on approach has led to a very client-oriented style, particularly when working with emerging companies and fintech.

Law Degree (Faculty of Law, University of Porto, 2005). Post Graduate Studies in Tax (Coimbra Faculty of Law, 2007). Several specialised courses in Tax and Corporate Law. Certified Trainer (CAP) – frequently takes part in internal and external tax trainings.
