Position
Douglas is a solicitor specialising in education law, with a focus on special educational needs and disability (SEND). He has worked in education law since 2014, qualified as a solicitor in 2019, and rejoined Geldards in 2026 after a year at Russell-Cooke LLP. Diagnosed with autism, ADHD and dyspraxia, Douglas brings both professional expertise and personal insight into what his clients’ children go through.
He represents parents and young people in all aspects of SEND tribunal appeals, including EHCP assessments and plans, independent school placements, education otherwise than at school (EOTAS/EOTIS), and complex appeals involving health and social care. He is particularly recognised for his expertise in negotiating precise EHCP wording and identifying suitable school placements nationwide.
Douglas also advises on disability discrimination claims, judicial reviews, complaints against local authorities and the Ombudsman, school attendance, elective home education, transport, disability benefits, information rights, healthcare and social care disputes, and higher education appeals.
His approach is tailored to each client, combining strategic negotiation with robust advocacy where necessary. He aims to guide families through the legal process as efficiently as possible while securing the best achievable outcome.
Douglas has secured placements at numerous specialist and independent schools, achieved innovative EOTAS and personal budget arrangements, and successfully overturned a First-tier Tribunal decision without the need for a full Upper Tribunal appeal.
