GREEN GUIDE EMEA 2023: Ukraine
GOLAW
Leading Ukrainian law firm GOLAW regularly assists clients with understanding the regulatory framework for green energy projects. The firm stands out for its experience providing legal advice on the construction of large biomass power plants.
Sergiy Oberkovych, Valentyn Gvozdiy, and Oleksandr Melnyk are advising KBPP Management, which proposes to develop one of the largest bio power plants in Ukraine, in two ongoing highlights: firstly, on a $130m value matter regarding the tender for the selection of the new EPC contractor for the development of the large scale biomass power plant in the Khmelnytsky region, and secondly, on challenging the refusal of the state architectural inspection to issue construction permit for a plant.
Oberkovych and Melnyk are also advising TIU Canada on matters related to the export of green energy from Ukraine to Europe, and the firm’s real estate practice is providing legal assistance to BIE, an international investor in alternative energy projects, on matters related to the purchase of sunflower oil production facilities in Ukraine.
Due to the firm’s focus on the energy sector, it is in regular dialogue with Ukrainian and European energy regulatory authorities, offering suggestions to the government on how to address issues in the country’s renewable energy industry.
Internal initiatives involve introducing an e-invoicing system which significantly reduced the firm’s printing needs, environmental awareness projects involving clients, business partners and employees, and the publication of thought leadership pieces, such as a recent article on climate change litigation under the firm’s Energy Alert newsletter.
