  • Acted on behalf of a specialist Midland Mental Health Trust in judicial review proceedings in relation to a patient needing mental health care where the national crisis in mental health beds meant there was no appropriate local provision.
  • Advising NHS England on the parameters for spending monies allocated as part of the Estates and Transformation Fund, the biggest public sector investment in GP premises for the past 20 years, and in particular, the provisions of financial grants to GPs to improve their surgery premises and develop new surgery premises.
  • Representing Birmingham Community Healthcare in a race and disability discrimination claim where the disability relied upon was Electromagnetic Sensitivity (EMS). Successfully argued that she was not disabled by reason of EMS at the relevant time of the claim, therefore, the disability discrimination claim was struck out.

  • CQC prosecution for unsafe care and treatment pursued following review of emergency medicine review. Advised NHS trust Board throughout its improvement journey. Advised upon PACE responses, plea, sentencing and appeal. Ultimately the Magistrate accepted the deaths of 2 patients were associated with poor care and the trust was fined over £2m.
  • Sale of CIC’s older people’s care home business EachStep Care, to Park Homes UK Limited. Comprising 15 care homes. Dealt with property, pensions, employment and commercial due diligence as well as negotiating the detailed terms of the sale and securing approval from English and Scottish Care Regulators and approval from 6 local authorities to the assignment of existing care contracts to Park Homes.
  • High profile inquest following death of a teenager. The patient was known to mental health services but was lost to follow up. The patient advised a physiotherapist of suicidal thoughts and this was escalated to local authority, GP and a local mental health team. The patient ligatured. Safeguarding policies were reviewed and the Coroner accepted the improved systems and the trust avoided a PFD finding.
