Overview

As one of the CEE countries that is part of the eurozone, Slovakia is viewed as an attractive location for investors, which is reflected by the prevalence of mid-market M&A. Despite reports of strong corporate activity in 2018 and 2019, many firms foresee a slowdown, which could impact the market in 2020. Despite the anticipated uncertainty, the engineering and automotive sectors remain key drivers of work. In addition, commercial and residential real estate development projects and transactions are also prominent, particularly in the capital city, Bratislava.

The small but competitive legal market is home to a number of domestic and international firms; Dvořák Hager & Partners joined forces with Eversheds Sutherland in 2019 to establish Eversheds Sutherland, advokátní kancelář, s.r.o.. Elsewhere, other firms have been making a splash, including Advokátska kancelária MCL, s.r.o., which has gone from strength to strength since it was established in 2016.
