Intellectual property in Lithuania


The key names to note at specialist IP firm AAA Law are Giedrė Domkutė, managing partner Otilija Klimaitiene and Aušra Pakėnienė. The team advised the National Association of Collective Copyright Management on the implementation of licensing agreements for the Lithuanian Cable Television Association. Pharmaceutical patents are a core strength for the IP and regulatory practice at Cobalt, which acts for a roster of local and international clients including Novartis. Žilvinas Kvietkus is the key name to note and recently represented Bayer before the Court of Appeal of Lithuania in a landmark litigation case relating to the invalidation of several pharmaceutical patents. The team has been strengthened by the addition of two new associates: data protection specialist Renata Vasiliauskienė joined from Eversheds Saladžius (a member of Eversheds Sutherland) and Juras Žymančius joined from Magnusson.


Ellex advises clients on the full spectrum of IP matters, including the enforcement of trade marks and patents and copyright infringements. Practice head Vytautas Mizaras and Mantas Rimkevičius successfully acted for football club Kauno Žalgiris in a trade mark dispute relating to the use of the name 'Žalgiris', as well as representing Kauno Žalgiris basketball club in a related dispute. Other key figures in the practice include Jaunius Gumbis. Clients include Coca-Cola and AkzoNobel. Former practice co-head Laura Ziferman left the partnership to co-found Law Firm WALLESS Burgienė, Rečiūnas and partners.

METIDA Law Firm Zaboliene and Partners

At METIDA Law Firm Zaboliene and Partners, Reda Zaboliene leads the team, which is acting for manufacturing company John Deere in a trade mark infringement case before the Supreme Court of Lithuania. Erikas Saukalas is noted for his expertise in copyright infringements and counterfeiting. Associated partner Inga Lukauskiene is another name to note.


Daivis Švirinas has taken over as head of the IP group at Sorainen, which is advising longstanding client Google on a range of matters, including filing trade mark applications and instigating opposition proceedings, as well as advising on IP protection for the client's products in the Baltic states. Of counsel Stasys Drazdauskas assisted with this matter and is recommended for his expertise in trade mark registration and copyright matters. Former practice head Renata Beržanskienė left the firm for an in-house position at Orlen Lietuva, and associate Ignas Motiejūnas joined Ellex.

Mindaugas Civilka and Vidmantas Drizga lead the IP practice group at TGS Baltic, which has expertise in trade mark litigation and also handles data protection matters. Lina Darulienė is the key name for IP litigation; she recently represented Virtuvės mitų griovėjai in a trade mark dispute. Senior associates Greta Bujutė, who joined the team from Danske Bank, and Indrė Barauskienė are also noted.

LEADELL Balčiūnas & Grajauskas regularly undertakes contentious IP work; Gintaras Balčiūnas  is currently representing Naujoji Rūta in several trade mark infringement cases, as well as providing legal advice to pharmaceutical company Roche on patent production.  Practice head Jurgita Najulyte is recommended. Senior associate Liūnė Storoženkaitė has left the firm to join METIDA Law Firm Zaboliene and Partners.


At VILGERTS, managing partner Jūratė Kūgytė leads the team, which has been advising financial institutions, airlines and telecoms companies on compliance with the new GDPR guidelines. Recent work includes providing legal advice to a leading European construction material company on trade mark infringement. Associates Erika Budaitė and Gabija Gumbrevičiūtė are recommended.
