Career

Sam Wainaina qualified as a Kenyan advocate in 1978 and joined Kaplan & Stratton in the same year. He became a partner in 1983.  In addition to being a member of the law Society of Kenya he is also a member of the International Trademark Association and the Institute of Trademark Attorneys.

 

His main areas of practice are commercial and corporate law particularly: energy and infrastructure projects; banking securities; corporate restructuring; pension and retirement benefits; and intellectual property.

 

Key assignments in which Sam has been engaged include: advising on a joint venture for the establishment of Kenya’s first airside perishable goods freight business; advising on the proposed joint venture for LPG handling and storage facility between Kenya Petroleum Refineries and Kenya Pipeline Company; acting as legal consultant for proposed development of a gas powered energy plant in Rwanda; and legal transaction adviser for France Telecom on its acquisition of 51% of Telkom Kenya from the Government valued at USD 390m.
