Peter has been a qualified advocate since 1990 and a partner at Kaplan & Stratton since 1994. He is a Notary Public, Commissioner of Oaths, certified public secretary, fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, member of the Kenya Section of the International Commission of Jurists, an accredited mediator and a member of the International Bar Association.

His main area of practice is civil and commercial litigation involving banking and related commercial transactions, tax law, constitutional and judicial (administrative) review matters, employment law, insurance, debt collection, arbitration and mediation, libel, construction disputes, land disputes, industrial accident, medical negligence and procurement contract claims. Peter Gachuhi handles matters in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, the High Court, subordinate courts and specialist tribunals like the Public Procurement Review Board.

He has been instructed on several prominent matters including: successfully obtaining a judgment that involved an aircraft accident in which the court for the first time interpreted the provisions of section 14 of the Civil Aviation Act; successfully obtained a precedent setting ruling from the Supreme Court in a class action suit; successfully obtained a precedent setting decision from the appeals court on employment law regarding redundancy notices , prosecuting in the appellate court a tax demand of KES 100 million on behalf of a telecom operator; and successfully defended in the Court of Appeal a paternity suit by reliance on DNA evidence in succession proceedings.
