Career
Ian is based in Walkers’ Ireland office where he is a partner in the firm’s Finance & Capital Markets group. Ian’s principal practice areas are structured products, capital markets, fund financing, general finance and distressed investment.
Ian advises on Irish and EU legal and regulatory aspects of the establishment, financing, operation and management of Irish special purpose vehicles and other investment vehicles which acquire a broad range of asset classes (loans, mortgages, receivables, distressed assets, insurance products etc) around the world.
Ian also advises on a wide range of finance, direct lending and general corporate matters, distressed investment and other bespoke structured product transactions. Ian has acted for various US and Asian lenders on a number of complex and innovative fund financing solutions including equity bridge facilities, acquisition financings, capital call facilities, NAV based margin loans and fund linked derivative solutions.

Walkers continues to stand out for its commitment to the CLO and CMBS market, along with its prominence in insurance-linked securities and catastrophe bonds, and securitisations and significant risk transfer (SRT) issues. It is a clear market leader in CLOs, frequently representing new entrants into the European CLO segment. The hugely experienced Andrew Traynor is co-head of the finance and capital markets group, continuing to advise on numerous securitisations and structured finance transactions. Noeleen Ruddy also co-heads the team and remains at thje forefront of the CLO sector, along with catastrophe bonds and insurance-linked securities. Paddy Rath is another key figure in the CLO segment, while Ian McNamee is noted for DCM and securitisations.

The primarily lender-side firm also has broad coverage of the acquisition finance, commercial lending, loan portfolio transactions, and real estate and development finance arenas, among others. In addition, the Dublin team advises a number of borrowers in the real estate segment, as well as funds and sponsors seeking leverage. Fund finance specialist Andrew Traynor and Noeleen Ruddy , who is noted for structured finance and non-performing loan sales, co-lead the finance and capital markets team.
