Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP comprises of ‘good legal and litigation all-rounders’, which is reflected in the scope of work handled for private and public sector clients, running the gamut from financial services and corporate/shareholder disputes, public procurement and judicial review challenges. ‘Responsive, pragmatic, down-to-earth and to the point’, Richard Pitt is at the forefront of the office’s commercial litigation work for clients in core firmwide industry sectors, including transport, IT and renewables. In addition, alongside Helen Rowland (‘good judgement and a very safe pair of hands’), he heads up the office’s public procurement offering, which is particularly skilled at representing claimants in bringing challenges in failed bids. Luisa Gibbons has a core focus on public sector matters, including for education institutions in contractual disputes and judicial review proceedings. Under the leadership of Gareth Vowles , the office also excels in handling financial services-related litigation and aided by very effective legal technology solutions, the team excels in defending banks in document intensive mass tort litigation, including as it relates to mis-selling of financial products.

Wales > Public sector

Cutting across numerous practice areas, including litigation, employment and commercial, as well as handling some pure public law-related work, Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP remains a popular choice among local and central government stakeholders in Wales and the UK. The firm maintains a very strong public inquiries/investigations team which, although now chiefly driven out of the Midlands, also regularly receives very effective support from Cardiff-based practitioners, including vastly experienced consultant Peter Jones and Angharad Haf Hurle. Public procurement-related work is also a core strength, with Richard Pitt and Helen Rowland noted for their ability to provide ‘commercially focused legal advice’ to procuring authorities defending challenges to the outcome of public procurement competitions and, for those claimants challenging the decisions of contracting entities. Employment practitioner Huw Jones, who has a ‘good understanding of the local government and public sector’, co-heads the team alongside Pitt.
