Lawyer Rankings
Colombia > Labour and employment
Lloreda Camacho & Co.’s labour and employment lawyers receive plaudits for their ‘practicality, systemic vision and knowledge of Colombia’s business reality’. The wider firm’s formidable life sciences and IP offerings are reflected in its labour work, where it is particularly active in representing clients from the pharmaceutical, consumer and advertising industries on a mix of corporate support, regulatory compliance and employee termination-related claims. All-round regulatory partner Enrique Álvarez steers the practice with strong support from Rafael Abuchaibe, who serves as associate director of the labour practice.
Colombia > Life sciences
For some, Lloreda Camacho & Co. is ‘the firm with the highest level of specialisation in Colombia in health, pharmaceutical and consumer law issues’. The interdisciplinary life sciences team draws on experts in regulatory affairs, patents, compliance, data privacy and competition law, which equips it to provide life sciences companies with full-service advice that spans health regulations, labelling, marketing, data exclusivity protection and clinical studies, among other areas. Head of the patent and life sciences department, Ana María Castro, is widely recognised as a leader in the Latin American market, and one client testifies that ‘her vision not only encompasses the local, but also provides a regional and global perspective’. Among Castro’s key relationships, she manages patent portfolios for Gilead Sciences, Incyte Corp and F Hoffmann-La Roche. Administrative law partner Daniel Cardona specialises in advising domestic and multinational companies in the pharmaceutical and food sectors on health legislation; he recently acted alongside Castro to advise Takeda on the process of obtaining marketing authorisation for its Qdenga vaccine. Rounding out the names at partner level is regulatory specialist Enrique Álvarez, who co-heads the life sciences practice and is noted for his strength across a wide range of fields, including consumer law and regulatory affairs. Maria Alejandra De Los Ríos, who serves as associate director of the data protection and commercial contracts practices, also supports the life sciences unit.
Colombia > Competition and antitrust
During 2023/24, Lloreda Camacho & Co. advised a string of multinational corporations on merger reviews, antitrust training sessions and day-to-day compliance matters, with Live Nation, Merck and Novo Nordisk among its representative clients. The group also has experience in contentious work, where it utilises its firm-wide strengths in life sciences and TMT to specialise in antitrust litigation and competition investigations pertaining to those sectors. Enrique Álvarez maintains a broad regulatory practice, which spans competition, life sciences and labour law — among others — and co-heads the group alongside established younger partner Darío Cadena. Associate Diego Matiz left to study abroad in September 2023.
