Career
He has been admitted to the Bar since 1987; before which he was employed as a research assistant to the professorial chair of Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Hans Joachim Hirsch, under whose supervision he earned his doctorate. Before joining the Cologne team of avocado rechtsanwälte as partner in 2003, he had worked in a law firm specialising in environmental and technology law, where he was a partner from 1990 to 2000. After that he helped developing the Cologne office of a well-known business law firm. In his practice he advises clients from the private as well as the communal sector on all issues of environmental law, chemicals law, occupational safety & health law and the law of product safety. His clients include, inter alia, enterprises from the manufacturing sector, public utilities and waste management enterprises. Thomas has many years of experience in the provision of legal advice on complex procedures of permission of industrial facilities; to which belong a series of large well-known to the public projects. A further focus of his practice concerns legal advice on all issues relating to the remediation of brownfields and land recycling. Thomas is distinguished in his areas of practice through numerous publications and regular seminars. Furthermore, he is a co-editor of the Handbook on Brownfields Remediation and Site Management.
