Position

Hugo Keulers is a Partner is our Commercial and Litigation practice. He co-heads the insurance and reinsurance team.

 

He is one of the only Belgian lawyers with considerable experience and expertise in complex reinsurance disputes before the Belgian Courts.

Hugo’s practise today is focused on large and complex liability and insurance claims in areas such as All Risk Property, Construction All Risk Insurance, ALOP Insurance, D&O, Professional Indemnity and Product Liability Insurance. He is the trusted advisor of a large number of international and Belgian insurers on complex and sensitive legal issues, often with an important financial and/or international impact.

He is a member of the insurance committee of the International Bar Association (IBA), of the Belgian Risk Management Association (BELRIM) and of the Belgian Association of Insurance Lawyers (AJA).

Education

Hugo graduated with a law degree from the Catholic University of Leuven (KUL) in 1991. In 1995, he obtained a degree in insurance science from the IPO Management School of the University of Antwerp (UIA). In 2002 he completed a postgraduate course in financial management at the Catholic University of Leuven (KUL). Hugo was admitted to the Brussels bar in 1991 and is now a member of both the Brussels Bar and the Hasselt Bar, admitted to plead cases before all Belgian courts.

Lamberigts co-heads the practice alongside insurance fraud expert Hugo Keulers, employment fraud specialist Jan Hofkens and Yves Lenders, who brings a wealth of experience in corporate criminal liability and insolvency matters. The varied expertise of the practice’s leaders allows the firm to tackle multi-jurisdictional matters across a wide range of issues.
